Station Etc.

Enter the strange and liminal world of Station Etc, where reality is subjective and nothing is as it seems. Solve the riddles of the station and see through the eyes of strange creatures to find your way. What you see might not really be there, and what's really there might not be seen in the eccentric world of Station Etc.

Behind the scenes...

Concept

Station Etc. was originally pitched as a point-and-click adventure game where the main focus was possessing different NPC’s and seeing the world through their own unique perspective. Station Etc. instead became a 3D puzzle game, focusing more on the weird, bizarre atmosphere rather than the switching of POV’s. This made the game more entertaining to play and watch, based on comments from playtesters and youtube reviewers.

Roles and Responsibilities

As the lead sound designer and QA person on the project, I was responsible for composing, modifying, and splicing together audio in order for objects and characters to convey relevant gameplay information. I utilized Audiokinetic Wwise’s 3D sound features in order to make the in-game ambience feel immersive. I was also responsible for distributing the game to testers, writing and preparing test documents, and ensuring the game delivers our desired experience.

Learning Outcome

Sometimes for a game to reach its full potential, one must make sacrifices and let go of concepts if it doesn’t benefit the game. Station Etc. taught me that it’s okay to experiment and that it’s okay to let go of content, if it means creating a better game. Because Station Etc. was scoped down, it allowed the team to focus on pre-existing mechanics and flesh them out, rather than splitting focus to add new content.
